Abstract
The project will focus on tracing key horizons to obtain stratigraphic information using ICEGRAV and Polar GAP surveys (Fig.1). Using bed and ice characteristics, combined with the mapped englacial stratigraphy, processes which have formed and deformed the stratigraphy can be investigated. By using ice-depth models and/or ice cores taken at the South Pole and EPICA, which intersect radar data (Cavitte et al, 2016; Winter et al, 2019a), this project can reconstruct ice sheet history within the Weddell Sea Sector. This will constrain ISM parameters, including the influence of enhanced geothermal heat and basal shear and the impacts on sliding, internal deformation and consequential ice sheet stability.
