Abstract

The research questions of the study are the following:
- What Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) methodologies need to be developed / applied to ensure the best options in environmental terms for steel industry decarbonisation can be identified?
- How can LCA methods be linked to other techniques for assessing step change technologies in the steel industry e.g. techno-economic assessment?
- What are the challenges in developing LCA models to make predictive environmental assessments of novel technological processes?
- How should LCA inform industrial decarbonisation policies?
- What is the best or more viable CCU option for HIsarna?
- What studies / projects have already completed a process design for this CCU option?
- How do the environmental impacts from the CCU route compare to the conventional HIsarna route and the blast furnace route?
- What are the bottlenecks in terms of environmental impacts for this technology?
