Lead Research Organisation: University of Nottingham
Department Name: Sch of Sociology & Social Policy

Abstract

This research focuses on the experiences of the return migration and reintegration processes of Caribbean returnees following the Windrush scandal. The Windrush scandal rose to the forefront of media, political and societal discussions in 2017, whereby individuals who had migrated to Britain from Caribbean islands were subjected to repercussions including deportation. The research specifically aims to investigate the implications of British migration legislation surrounding the scandal for Jamaican-born individuals who have subsequently returned to Jamaica. Using ethnography, this research aims to document lived experiences of return migration and processes of reintegration. The research will identify effective support strategies to inform policies and practices concerning return migration and reintegration.
