Innovation, Management capability and Productivity in SME's

Lead Research Organisation: Cardiff University
Department Name: Cardiff Business School

Abstract

This project is in partnership with the Economic Microdata Research section of the Official for National Statistics (ONS). The student will be to the ESRC Productivity Institute (for which the lead supervisor is Co-investigator and Wales lead). The research will analyse impacts of innovation support and management practice on SME productivity as well as policy transmission paths, including regional interventions and Covid-19 impacts with particular attention of Wales. Access to ONS firm-level data resources will require student completion of "approved researcher" status under the Digital Economy Act. Accredited access and subsequent data security are the main ethical issues raised by the project. If Covid-19 restrictions remain in place, then ONS and CARBS will work closely to ensure safe and secure remote access. No primary data collection is entailed, and no new creation of IP will arise, beyond collaborative published academic outputs.
