Acceleration of scientific code for multicore CPUs, GPUs and FPGAs

Lead Research Organisation: University of Glasgow
Department Name: School of Computing Science

Abstract

This PhD project aims to enable multicore acceleration of legacy scientific codes, with a particular
focus on FPGAs. We aim to develop a suite of tools and methodologies for automatic
refactoring and optimization of legacy sequential software, thus raising the abstraction level
of FPGA programming. The ultimate goal is to significantly improve the speed of execution
and power consumption of large weather and climate simulations, however, the knowledge base
developed during the project should apply to other scientific codes as well.
