Abstract
In meeting our climate goals, bioenergy with carbon capture and storage (BECCS) has been identified as a vital, yet controversial, negative emissions technology. Our whole-system analysis investigates the controversy around BECCS by answering two key questions: a) Under which conditions is BECCS a carbon negative and resource efficient technology? and, b) From a temporal perspective, how much CO2 can be removed over the lifetime of a BECCS project?
