A Spatial Analysis Approach to Estimate Child Labour Prevalence and Determinants

Lead Research Organisation: University of Manchester
Department Name: Social Sciences

Abstract

The main overall objective of this PhD is to develop a framework for utilising methods of spatial analysis to estimate child labour prevalence and better understand its drivers. In order to test and demonstrate the suitability of such methods, they will be applied to specific case studies. These case studies will usually focus
on locales where the child labour rate is higher, due to better access to data, but the generalisability of these methods will also be considered. The PhD seeks to address the following research questions:

To what extent can methods of spatial analysis be used as tools to estimate child labour prevalence?
What are the drivers of child labour and how does their impact vary across geographical space?
