Abstract
Fluorination with simple fluoride salts in water is a highly sustainable approach to manufacturing of fluorine-containing APIs. Research in Nguyen group have shown that surfactants, whose selection is guided by a surfactant_map, can enable these processes by fine tuning the degree of hydration of the fluoride anion and its reactivity. In this project, we will further develop these ground-breaking findings into potential manufacturing processes by delivering: (i) a wider substrate pool; (ii) purification protocols to avoid contamination with surfactants; and (iii) continuous processes which include surfactant/fluoride recycling for true sustainability.
