Pixelated single photon counting X-ray detection for medical imaging
Lead Research Organisation:

Department Name: Engineering
Abstract
The current X-ray photon counting detectors for medical imaging are made of extremely expensive Cadmium Telluride (CdTe) or Cadmium Zinc Telluride (CZT) semiconductors, limiting wide-spread use. Recently, inexpensive, abundant, and compatibility with low-temperature fabrication halide perovskite materials are promising for sensitive X-ray detection. The PhD project aims to develop a low-cost X-ray photon counting detector based on halide perovskite materials for medical imaging. The project aims to reach three objectives: 1) growing perovskite single crystals, 2) build a strong understanding of single-pixel PCD with perovskite single crystal, and 3) fabricate a pixelated PCD for X-ray imaging. The student will work with a diverse group of researchers from different backgrounds of electronics, physics, chemistry, and materials science at the University of Cambridge.
