Abstract
The ICASE student will learn about techniques for quantum communications based on single photon detection. They will build optical set ups for free space communications, as well as high speed electronics for driving VCSELs, optical modulators and single photon detectors. The PhD is mostly experimental in nature, but will also involve modelling of optical links.
This ICASE studentship will be based at Toshiba Europe in Cambridge, but will be supported by an academic research group at Heriot-Watt University.
