Abstract
My PhD project is on Highly Infectious Avian Influenza (HPAI), subtype H5N1. Specifically, I am investigating the impact of having a mixed-species flock on the within-flock and between flock infection dynamics of HPAI H5N1, as well as evaluating possible disease surveillance and intervention strategies. The project will involve constructing and simulating mathematical models to describe a flock mixed with chickens and ducks, with parameters taken from the literature. The result of the simulation will give an estimate on key statistics, such as the size of the epidemic peak or outbreak duration, which can help inform the most sensible intervention strategy for HPAI.
