The effects of multiple stressors on waterbirds in the Flow Country
Lead Research Organisation:
University of the Highlands and Islands
Department Name: The North Highland College UHI
Abstract
The Flow Country in northern Scotland is an internationally important peatland supporting an incredibly diverse waterbird community, proposed as the world's first peatland world heritage site, yet many breeding bird species are declining there. This project investigates the multiple stressors and drivers of change in Flow Country waterbird population trends to identify causes and enable successful conservation management. The supervisory team has a range of international expertise, including wetland, predator and waterbird ecology, and data science. The student will be based in Thurso at the Environmental Research Institute, part of UHI North, West and Hebrides. The student will work with and benefit from the management experience of RSPB as the project partner with a placement opportunity at Forsinard Flows Nature Reserve.
