Search for exotic mesons in photoproduction (preliminary)
Lead Research Organisation:
University of Glasgow
Department Name: School of Physics and Astronomy
Abstract
The research project aims at finding and identifying exotic mesons in photoproduction. These states, theorised to exist, have so far not been established beyond doubt. Establishing them will further our understanding of how matter is built up from quarks and which role gluons play in that. Various reactions are used to search for exotic mesons. The student will identify and choose a new reaction that is currently not under study and use data gathered by the GlueX experiment located at Jefferson Lab, USA, to carry out the search. This will require sophisticated data analysis techniques, such as machine learning, Bayesian sampling and partial wave analysis.
