Modelling Quantum Properties of Twistronic van der Waals Structures
Lead Research Organisation:
The University of Manchester
Department Name: Physics and Astronomy
Abstract
This project will address theoretical modelling of quantum electronic and optical properties of heterostructures and multilayers of van der Waals semiconductors. These studies will be based on a hybrid k.p theory and tight-binding model description of such systems, aiming to account for the influence of lattice reconstruction due to the interlayer adhesion and the effects of the periodic moiré patterns, characteristic for weakly incommensurate or small-angle-twisted interfaces. The realisation of this project will involve learning field theoretical methods in quantum theory of solids and Green functions methods, use of symmetry with elements of group theory, and kinetic theory.
