Wind Turbine Blade Leading Edge Erosion Protection

Lead Research Organisation: University of Strathclyde
Department Name: Electronic and Electrical Engineering

Abstract

The project aims to develop a polyurethane-graphene hybrid protective coating for leading edge erosion in wind and tidal turbine blades. The proposed methodology includes laboratory experiments, computer simulations and economic analysis to evaluate the effectiveness and economic feasibility of the coating. This project is novel in its use of a hybrid approach develop a coating material that combines the unique properties of polyurethane and graphene and has the potential for contribute to the field of renewable energy by improving the efficiency and longevity of wind and tidal turbine operations.
