Experimental and numerical study of material requirements for liquefied and compressed gas hydrogen storage tanks

Lead Research Organisation: University of Southampton
Department Name: Sch of Engineering

Abstract

The PhD project will investigate material requirements for liquefied and compressed gas hydrogen storage tanks. Combinations to be investigated include porous materials in compressed hydrogen tanks, both as liners or for bulk storage, metallic materials for liquid hydrogen storage, and metal hydride materials. These will be investigated experimentally at a range of temperatures, including 20 K, 77 K and room temperature, with and without hydrogen pre-charging. Data collected from experiments will be used to model capacities, thermal effects, kinetics, and robustness of the different variations of storage tanks.
