Validation of uptake, heterogeneity and shape metrics in clinical PET-CT using Monte Carlo Simulation and 3D printed anthropomorphic phantoms

Lead Research Organisation: University of Manchester
Department Name: Physics and Astronomy

Abstract

This project aims to establish the current uncertainty in estimating the therapeutic radiation dose delivered to tumours in Molecular RadioTherapy (MRT) and to evaluate methods for improving the accuracy of estimation. This knowledge will contribute to a better understanding of the clinical effectiveness of MRT and to better patient management in Oncology. The research will utilise data from Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography (SPECT) clinical imaging and will employ patient specific 3D printed phantoms and Monte-Carlo (MC) simulations.
