Functional outcomes of the TRECK Trial (Trabecular metal Economic and Clinical Knee Trial)

Lead Research Organisation: University of Strathclyde
Department Name: Biomedical Engineering

Abstract

This PhD will be contributing to the collection and analysis of data as part of the TRECK (TRabecular metal Economic and Clinical Knee Trial). TRECK is a double blinded randomised controlled trial (RCT) of the health economic and clinical comparison of Trabecular Metal Uncemented and Cemented Modular Total Knee Replacements (TKR).

The project will develop a new form of motion capture technique fusing data from traditional camera based motion analysis and IMU based data capture to give a comprehensive biomechanical model of the human in motion which is simple to implement but also inexpensive and rapid to use. The system will be used to record the functional movement of the patients undergoing surgery before and after operation of cemented and uncemented TKR patients in the TRECK trial.
