Understanding the nature of AGN outflows and their importance in galaxy evolution

Lead Research Organisation: University of Sheffield
Department Name: Physics and Astronomy

Abstract

This observational PhD project will involve the analysis of existing spectroscopic data to (a) investigate the acceleration mechanisms for multiphase AGN outflows; (b) precisely determine the spatial extents, physical properties masses and kinetic powers of the AGN outflows; and (c) compare to theoretical models, thereby gauging the overall importance of AGN outflows in galaxy evolution.
