Marine Renewable Energy: Public perception and acceptability

Lead Research Organisation: University of Huddersfield
Department Name: Chemical Sciences

Abstract

Marine renewable energy is a key element of current and future global renewable energy and carbon emissions reduction targets. As the number and size of marine renewable energy deployments increases, so too will interactions with coastal communities. Research from onshore renewable energy has demonstrated that the social acceptability of renewable energy installations is crucial to their success. This project will: identify the communities most likely to be impacted by marine renewable energy; explore the acceptability of different technological options; and analyse public perception around existing projects.
