Understanding the regulation of apoptosis-induced cell cycle re-entry

Lead Research Organisation: University of Birmingham
Department Name: Sch of Biosciences

Abstract

In multicellular organisms, cells need to exit the cell cycle before they differentiate into their specified cell fates. Interestingly, although the underlying mechanisms remain elusive, we have observed that differentiating cells can re-enter the cell cycle in response to apoptotic stress, a phenomenon critical for the maintenance of tissue homeostasis. This PhD project aims to explore how apoptosis-induced cell cycle re-entry is regulated at the molecular level, using Drosophila as a model organism.
