The Transformative Experience of Therapeutic Farming for Young People at Risk of Exclusion.

Lead Research Organisation: University of Birmingham
Department Name: Sch of Geography, Earth & Env Sciences

Abstract

My research enquires into the embodied-spatial experiences at a therapeutic farm for young people at risk of exclusion.

The first stage of my proposed research seeks to investigate the ways in which an individual's sensorial experiences at a therapeutic farm emerge into a narrative of transformation.

The second stage of the project involves developing collaborative, creative methods to tell these stories in ways which feel meaningful to the young people.

The third stage involves gathering the data to offer a timely and vital contribution of theories, methods and practices to the academic and practical fields of child-centred mental health provisions, drawing on the stimulating, cross-disciplinary environment of Birmingham's Children and Childhood Network to share the findings.
