Weight reduction is of pressing importance in order to reduce CO2 emissions. All vehicles sizes (micro cars to lorries) and engine types (Diesel, Petrol or Electric) will benefit. Currently the use of aluminium to achieve major weight reduction is limited by cost, which arises from the purchase cost of aluminium and from the difficulties in processing aluminium sheet into useful shapes for automotive applications.
