Abstract

Code-switching, the use of two languages with in the same conversation is presumable on of the most common features of talk among bilingual speakers. Among bilingual speakers, codes-switching serves socio-symbolic functions as well as organisational functions. In the first case, code-switching is used to negotiate interpersonal relationships between participants while, in the second, it contributes to organisation of talk. The proposed Research Leave will be used to complete a draft of a book, provisionally entitled TALK IN TWO LANGUAGES, in which I will propose a unitary of both the symbolic and the organisational functions of code-switching.
