Computational systems biology for pneumonia vaccine development using human challenge models

Lead Research Organisation: Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine
Department Name: Clinical Sciences

Abstract

Project involves collecting clinical samples collected in the context of a unique Experimental Human Pneumococcal Challenge model (EHPC), in which volunteers are safely infected with live pneumococcus. Collected samples include serial transcriptomics data, cytokine levels and immunophenotyping data from the nose and blood before and after colonization. Student to develop skills in the field of systems immunology and human infection challenge models under the supervision of Daniela Ferreira and Helder Nakaya. State-of-the-art computational tools will be applied to identify signatures of protection against colonization using this high-dimensional dataset.
