Development of Deep Tissue Label-free Microscopy Techniques for Biomedical Applications

Lead Research Organisation: University of Southampton
Department Name: Sch of Chemistry

Abstract

The project is to develop deep penetration approaches using label-free chemical imaging techniques for tissue diagnosis. In this project far-red wavelengths above 1.5 microns will be studied in their ability to penetrate in various tissue samples and retrieve chemical compositional information. It will involving building an optical setup, developing methodologies, sample preparation, measurements and analysis. Initially bone samples will be studied for osteoarthritis and osteoporosis diagnosis but other tissue samples may be examined.
