Although microalgal systems offer many advantages for production of high-value neutraceuticals significant downstream processing challenges must be overcome before algal biomass can be produced sustainably. This innovation voucher will enable the critical cross-sector knowledge transfer needed to develop a novel, cost-effective, chemical-free, microalgae extraction technique, which has the potential to make a significant contribution to achieving larger-scale, commercially viable production systems.
