Exploiting the resilience of masonry arch bridge infrastructure: a 3D multi-level modelling framework

Lead Research Organisation: University of Leeds
Department Name: Civil Engineering

Abstract

Abstracts are not currently available in GtR for all funded research. This is normally because the abstract was not required at the time of proposal submission, but may be because it included sensitive information such as personal details.

Description The three dimensional behaviour of masonry arch bridges explored. The interaction between the arch barrel, backfill material and spandrel walls found to significantly influence the load carrying capacity of masonry arch bridges. Such information give insights into a more accurate assessment of these structures.
Exploitation Route All data will become available online and able to be used by academic community and industry. Experimental results from testing full scale masonry arch bridges can be used by researchers and industry to validate their structural analysis and assessment models for masonry arch bridges. In addition, a series of small scale experimental tests undertaken and results can be used as input properties for their structural analysis models.
