Abstract

InterfaceFLOR, a global leader in sustainable business practices, propose to work with the University of York and other partners to develop and commercialise a ''switchable adhesive'' derived from renewable resources for the textile flooring industry. By developing an adhesive with a controlled switching mechanism the adhesive property could be "switched off" allowing the components to be seperated. If this approach is successful it will allow the backing and top cloth of carpet to be ''unzippered'', and appropriate technology developed for recycling.
