Abstract

The transition to zero emission technologies is challenging for all heavy vehicles - but particularly for specialist fire appliances due to the demanding drive cycles and power demands associated with continuous pumping. Whilst innovation is taking place to develop zero emission heavy vehicles and increase their power outputs, there has not been a similar focus on reducing the pumping demands until this point.

The innovative and energy efficient FeTU pump has the exciting potential to reduce the complexity of developing zero emission pumping appliances at a scale to meet the demand from fire services in the UK and globally. The FeTu pump also provides additional advantages over current technology - offering a lightweight and smaller solutions (limited stowage space another challenge for fire appliances) and fewer parts (reducing cost, complexity and increasing resilience).

This 8-month collaborative feasibility study between FeTu Limited and London Fire Brigade aims to explore the potential of FeTu's innovative pump. The objective of the project is to ascertain the feasibility of the pump and subject the prototype to demanding testing for its performance and durability.

This project will support the transition of LFB and other fire services to plan and deliver zero emission fleets - however it will also bring potential opportunities for additional exploitation within the water & wastewater sector, hydropower and industrial applications.
