Unlocking Accessibility - Public Solution

Abstract

**Unlocking Accessibility - Public Solution** builds on the success of Innovate UK funded Phase 1 feasibility project, which saw the development of an innovative, user-centric, accessible EV chargepoint concept. This ground-breaking design enables motorists with disabilities to charge easily and quickly, ensuring that the 15% of the global population with a disability can benefit from the transition to EVs by:

\*Automating the tethered cable, making management of the cable to and from the vehicle easier and safer.

\*Reducing the carried weight of the cable allowing one-handed operation.

\*Removing the need for protective barriers by considering impact protection and replacement within the design.

\*Providing contactless payment for seamless user experience.

An established and skilled project team with extensive experience in delivering ambitious, innovative projects, will capitalise on the progress made during Phase 1 and further commercially funded work to provide a user-focused design solution to meet the demand for improved charging experiences for everyone, as well as ensuring that the growing number of older and disabled people are able to benefit from the transition to more sustainable travel. As the boom in EV chargepoint installations continues and the switch to EVs gains momentum, ensuring chargepoints meet the needs of all users will be essential in ensuring the UK Government meets its Road to Zero goals.

Project success will support UK businesses, confirming their positions at forefront of EV infrastructure design, while boosting the UK economy through the growth of skilled jobs in the manufacturing sector. Using a resilient UK based supply chain, the project supports the goal of establishing the UK in leading the way in EV infrastructure technology and design globally.
