Developing the world's first baby-milk free from carcinogenic and genotoxic tropical oils

Lead Participant: KENDAL NUTRICARE LTD

Abstract

Kendal Nutricare (KNC), a rapid-growth and Queens Award winning British family business, is seeking to disrupt the $40-billion per-year global infant-formula market by developing a world-first innovation in baby milk that will be safer, nutritionally-superior, more naturally and sustainably-made and scientifically closer to the gold-standard of breastmilk.

The prototype recipe (code-name 'Kendamil-Bio'), will be represent a fundamentally innovative formulation, not before attempted in the industry's 150-year history, to replace known ingredients containing harmful toxins with novel, natural ingredients that enhance infant-safety, nutritional-quality, proximity to breastmilk and prouct sustainability. This project will leverage KNC teams' 500+ years' cumulative expertise in infant nutrition innovation to provide infants the most nutritionally-complete, environmentally-sustainable baby-milk in the world, one designed to be uniquely closer to human-milk by incorporating several breastmilk components linked to cognitive development and strengthened immunity in children, at levels never before reached in infant formulations.

Development of the Kendamil-Bio prototype, a world-first product made here in the UK, will comprise an 18 month project involving 24 KNC team members including R&D technicians, food scientists, quality assurance professionals, production engineers and senior management, carried out at KNC's world-class, BRC AA-grade, FDA-registered production facilities in Kendal, gateway to the English Lake District, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Successful development of a novel, safer, nutritionally-superior and more environmentally-sustainable baby-milk is estimated to deliver material export revenue, re-investment in British agriculture and local skilled employment opportunities, while showcasing to the global formula industry a more effective, secure, ethical and sustainable standard of manufacturing that can be achieved, led by our world-class capabilities here in the UK.
