Abstract
The FibreNet Project provides an open demonstration platform to meet the demand for the live testing and demonstration of cloud-based services including Software as a Service, Infrastructure as a Service and Everything as a Service (Saas, IaaS and EaaS) applications. FibreNet combines local, national and international tiers of existing network infrastructure with secure data centre services to provide a scalable, “production grade”, network services demonstrator with global reach. The project partners include cloud infrastructure provider AIMES, metropolitan fibre provider 2020 Liverpool, MPLS network provider Virgin Media Business and global Tier 1 provider Level 3. Access to the test bed is simplified by the use of published API's and service level agreements. The demonstrator provides access to fully scalable digital facilities and exposes a range of network services including Bandwidth-on-Demand (BoD), configurable Quality of Service (QoS) and micro billin/fractional revenue payments. FibreNet allows innovative trials to be undertaken which demonstrate new digital products and new business models delivered using commercial-grade network services and cloud infrastructure.
