Abstract

Recent advancements in vector embeddings and large language models (LLM) have opened-up huge new opportunities to power next-generation market discovery and search. Thema are developing game-changing trustworthy AI to unearth deep-insights from online text sources, enabling SME private market investors to significantly improve market discovery/company evaluation, ROI and productivity.

Existing analyst-driven software tools e.g. CB Insights / Grata / Crunchbase / Pitchbook, are built on legacy search technology which lacks contextual understanding and coverage of markets and companies, stifling discovery. Public search engines (Google / Bing) serve only general information discovery, whilst nearest state-of-the-art (Valuer AI) has poor results, relying heavily on augmenting their tools with biassed consulting services (competitor analysis: Appendix\_Q4). Market mapping is generally conducted manually by expensive/unscalable/static consulting services (c.£500k for one-off 6-week project). These limitations result in investors arriving late to deals (paying a premium), missing deals altogether and losing time on manual research tasks, as markets evolve rapidly.

This project builds on the existing MVP and outputs from Phase-1 (Appendix\_Q4/Q5) to develop and validate the innovation (work-plan:Question\_9). To ensure the solution is developed to meet user-needs, Thema will collaborate with exemplar companies from their primary target market (Smedvig Capital: VC/PE Investors) as well as segments from future growth markets (Signal AI: Scale-ups and Centrica: Large Corporate) to gather feedback on the product. Academic partners London Business School (LBS) and Cambridge Judge Business School (CJBS) will refine Thema's market taxonomy and conduct academic research to benchmark Thema's data against current state-of-the-art (Hoberg-Phillips).

Success with the project will give us first-to-market advantage with a groundbreaking AI market intelligence tool. PE/VC/Hedge Funds will adopt the innovation due to its unique value-proposition: enables investors to invest earlier (increased returns); find better quality companies (higher exit rate/returns on exit); increased productivity: 35% in time and deliver 25% increase in productivity: (Cipher 2020, study on competitor intelligence tooling); deliver ROI of 1.5x better exits based on 4x discovery and 2x evaluation process improvement.

Innovation is the leading driver of economic-growth (_OECD-2017_). By transforming the market and deal discovery we will enable private market investors to discover a broader pool of entrepreneurs/companies, directly impacting overall economic-growth at every industry-scale.
