Automatic Broadcast Content Interlinking Project (ABC-IP)

The Automatic Broadcast Content Interlinking Project (ABC-IP for short) is researching and developing advanced text processing techniques to link together different sources of metadata around large video and audio collections. The innovation is in the way data is processed and cross-referenced to enable the value of content collections to be unlocked.
The idea is that by cross-matching the various sources of metadata we have access to, many of which are incomplete, we will be able to build a range of new services that help both producers and consumers find their way around content more effectively. Prototypes will include video and audio from the BBC as well as other broadcasters and content providers.
The focus of ABC-IP is on three main outcomes:
• It will enable contextual links between current content and related archive content at a programme level and where possible at a segment level
• It will support contextual links from video and audio content to other commercial services such as retail websites and subscription services
• It will help reduce the budget required for digitising archive as it will identify the most relevant content, avoiding digitisation of items with less value
