PRINZ: Power-Roof for Implementing Net Zero

Abstract

**INNOVATION**

ACTL, an SME incorporated in 2018, has developed Power-Roof, an innovative, disruptive roof cassette, that delivers near instant Net Zero retrofit. It's a metal faced (standing seam) weather-tight structure which, supports large areas of thin film PV, harvests heat from beneath the PV, insulates to U-value 0.1 spans to 8M (eave to ridge).

**PROJECT**

This project will develop/demonstrate Power-Roof, at competitive costs, for quantity manufacture and installation in South West Wales (SWW), deliver Net Zero for SWW social homes requiring retrofit. It generates electricity these homes require, keeps occupants comfortable while reducing their living costs and will lead to significant local employment and training. With the energy produced/harvested/conserved, Power-Roof pays for itself in 5-10 years while electricity generated contributes to local government/social housing provider income.

**WORK DONE**

ACTL has developed Power-Roof through 2 Innovate UK projects (feasibility-132333; industrial-development-79528) completed retrofit demonstrations and produced further optimised/sustainable prototypes that embody carbon in the structure. At project initialisation, two already completed prototype cassettes will be reviewed and tested by Specific at Swansea University measuring cost, efficiency and sustainability of our product.

**NET ZERO**

This project enables ACTL to: show Net Zero impacts/benefits of Power-Roof, leverage commercial funding dependent on credible demand, carry out BBA certifications necessary for sales, deliver an innovative, disruptive product for social housing markets, meeting needs of social tenants, social housing providers, Government priorities and render entire areas of South Wales social housing to be made Net Zero (saving ~3 tonnes carbon/year/house _:carbonfootprint.com_).

**RESOURCES**

ACTL, has established a base in Swansea and engaged a number of local organisations as subcontractors in delivering the project. We will use new higher efficiency thin film PV from BIPV which they will test/prove. We'll work with: Fforest Timber Engineering will make our Power-Roof cassettes, to be installed on target houses from social housing provider Ateb. We'll compare: Welsh wool, flax wool, hemp wool versus mineral fibre insulation. An Advisory Board of industry experts and stakeholders will support the project.

**EDI**

EDI will be embedded in all aspects of the project, as Power-Roof enhances the lives of everyone beneath it. We'll use EDI principles to recruit a sales/production team based in South Wales.

**POST PROJECT**

At project completion, ACTL will demonstrate Power-Roof's efficacy at scale, grow SWW Net Zero industry demand and access funding that is dependent on demand to grow the product in South Wales and beyond.
