Commercialisation of a hydrocarbon wax derived from Mixed Plastic Waste

Lead Participant: RECYCLING TECHNOLOGIES LTD

Abstract

Plastic is a useful material that can provide savings in so many applications; fuel use is reduced by making cars and planes lighter, food is preserved by cost effective packaging. However, the downsides are all also clear with plastic filling our oceans and landfills. Recycling Technologies has developed a technology, the WarwickFBR™, to recover value from Mixed Plastic Waste by turning it into a hydrocarbon product branded as Plaxx™. Plaxx™ is similar to Slack Waxes which are used as a blending component in the manufacture of various industrial products and has an estimated global market of £2.7 billion. For commercialisation, it is necessary to prove the technology and that Plaxx™ can substitute Slack Wax. Hence, through this project it is aimed conduct industrial trials to produce Plaxx™, carry out research on the WarwickFBR™ and quality of Plaxx™ and engage in partnership with a Slack Wax user for Plaxx™ offtake. The success of this will help in developing the WarwickFBR™ which can reduce the 40 MT/annum of plastic currently landfilled or incinerated in the EU.
