Sentience—Artificial Intelligent Research Platform

Abstract

"_Every day, we create 2.5 quintillion bytes of data---90% of the data in the world was created in the last two years alone. This growth in information swamps employees, and makes it difficult to find timely and relevant information. As a result, a typical business person spends up to 30% of their time searching for information and trying to understand its context. The volume, types of information and data being shared has escalated significantly over the last decade, and more distributed workforces have increased the need to collaborate. Lost information comes at an enormous cost to the enterprise, for example a business employing 1,000 knowledge workers wastes at least €2.25 to €3.15 million per year searching for non-existent information, failing to find existing information, or recreating lost information._

_Enterprise search is the practice of making content from multiple enterprise-type sources, such as databases and intranets, searchable. However, search is often limited by the tool itself, and few companies have any tool that provides crossenterprise search, let alone personalised recommendations within tools, such as Outlook. Search tools require users to take extra steps in their workflow to conduct a search, as most search engines have their own unique syntax._

_We have developed Sentience, not as enterprise search, but rather as Corporate Memory. Sentience creates a knowledge map of all the relevant topics and domains of knowledge within an organisation. It maps the strength and relevance of topics and documents relevant to the work a user is carrying out. Sentience incorporates machine learning, natural language processing (NLP), graph architecture and artificial intelligence (AI) to deliver highly relevant and related search results._

_This project aims to bring Sentience to market. Likely post-project partners are industry software players, search consultancies and search platforms._"
