Abstract

Artist Alexa Wright has worked collaboratively with Professor Alf Linney at UCL for the past seven years. Their previous interactive installations Face Value and Alter Ego explore the physical expression of human identity and character. Alexa and Alf have developed innovative software to track and analyse facial expressions. In the context of the new Centre for Auditory Research (CAR) at UCL they will now extend their research to encompass an exploration of the implications of the voice and of hearing on identity. The Fellowship will encompass:
Research towards, and creation of, a new audio/video installation based on recognition and interpretation of vocal signals.
Publication of research relating to this project in the form of a scientific paper, seminars within the Centre for Auditory Research (CAR), and external public presentations
The involvement of other academics working within the CAR with a view to creating new work concerned with speech and hearing.
