Abstract
This research leave will result in the first book written on Somali metrical structure. It includes recent findings based on original fieldwork and research by the author and will be the most complete and up to date account of the metrical structure of this important poetic tradition. In addition it will discuss the use and development of the metre. It will be an important linguistics, poetics, stylistics, oral literature and African literature.
