The National Centre in Propulsion and Power

Lead Participant: UNIVERSITY OF CAMBRIDGE

Abstract

Aerospace is entering a period of disruptive change. The winners will be companies who can develop technologies quickly and cheaply. The aim of this proposal is to transform the UK aero-propulsion technology transfer process, making it ten times faster, ten times cheaper and ten times more precise. This is based on recent pioneering trials at Whittle Laboratory, which merge the digital and physical systems involved in technology transfer. The proposal is to build the National Centre for Turbomachinery Aerodynamics, an internationally unique facility designed with the flexibility to scale rapid technology transfer to ~80% of UK's future propulsion needs.
