Assessing the Feasibility of Using a Novel Sub-Micron, Magnetic Sorbent Material for the Highly Efficient Removal of Dissolved Organic Carbon from Blue Water
Lead Participant:
STOPFORD ENERGY AND ENVIRONMENT LIMITED
Abstract
This project will see the development of a novel highly efficient, low cost technology for the removal of an element of organic water pollution. Organic water pollution results in the discolouration of water and as such water companies are obliged to remove this to ensure that it reaches the drinking water quality standards as specified by the European Union. Organic water pollution to upland catchments has doubled in the last 20 years, resulting in some catchments becoming uneconomic for water abstaction using currently availible techniologies. This project therefore aims to validate a new technology for organic pollutant removal from water bodies and if successful will serve to maintain the security of water supply into the future.
