Remote, self powered sensing and transmission of data pertnent to water suppliers

Lead Participant: PIEZOTAG LIMITED

Abstract

Piezotag is well known in the automotive sector for its work on battery replacement technology, having developed the first battery free TPMS (Tyre Pressure Monitoring System). The technical solutions developed for this application have a generic quality; the requirement for self-powered data capture & RF transmission modules which can operate from remote, inaccessible or dangerous locations is hailed as the next logical step in wireless communications. Self-powered sensing systems offer substantial advantages over battery powered systems - higher data capture and transmit rates are made possible by replacing the finite energy source (battery) with the infinite potential provided by PH (Power Harvesting). In this project, Piezotag’s aim to take the IP and knowledge created in the TPMS application and apply it to an industrial product. This new application whilst specific also supports further generic development toward PH for consumer products.
