Catalysis by Itterative Rational Design

Lead Participant: INANOVATE (UK) LTD

Abstract

The proposed project will demonstrate the feasibility of a system to quantitatively examine the effects of size, density, and material mix, of nano-particles on a catalyst’s performance. Control over critical catalyst parameters at the nano-scale, with an associated capacity to vary these critical parameters in a systematic manner, could deliver new and improved catalysts for applications in drug discovery and energy. The system to be demonstrated through the project builds on a novel nano-particle production, selection and deposition machine capable of cost effectively depositing nano-particles of any given metal and size, onto any given surface and at any chosen density. Through this project, the nano-particle system will be integrated with a novel micro-reactor to demonstrate it's potential to deliver a ‘step change’ in catalyst development strategy; allowing fast, efficient and focused development of new and existing catalysts.
