Novel inflatable leg support for the prevention of wound ulcers
Lead Participant:
VENOUS COMPRESSION LIMITED
Abstract
The main aim of this project is to reduce the incidence of venous leg ulcers, and in particular to reduce or remove the risk of any recurrence, by introducing a novel, easy-to-fit inflatable pressure gaiter. By radically improving ease of use, it is predicted that patient compliance in using a pressure support mechanism will rise significantly, especially in elderly populations, where both patients and staff equally find current support stockings very hard to put on and take off. In turn, higher compliance should result in lowering the incidence of venous leg ulcers and with this, the associated cost to healthcare budgets.
