Wearable Energy Harvesting for Charging Portable Electronic Devices by Walking

Lead Research Organisation: UNIVERSITY OF EXETER
Department Name: Engineering Computer Science and Maths

Abstract

The aim of this project is to develop a novel wearable enable energy harvester and its system for powering portable devices. Over the last decades, wearable energy harvesting has been an exploding research field due to significant advantages that battery powered systems just can't offer. These includes by promising self-powered systems for years by capturing human body movement energy without needs for batteries, operating in a truly energy autonomous manner without worries about battery energy running out for replacements or for re-charging for their lifespan. Despite their many advantages, it has not been seen that there is a sufficiently large number of such deployable systems in applications yet. Several changes remain that have so far prevented the technology for applications. These include limited energy harvested and high power consumption of energy harvesting systems. The objective of the project is to design, and test a high performance energy harvester structure and system which enable wearable for powering portable devices.
