Atom Interferometry techniques to produce a working gravity gradiometer for applications outside of the lab

Abstract
Research will be conducted into the use of Atom Interferometry techniques to produce a working gravity gradiometer for applications outside of the lab. Conventional gravity survey techniques have reached a plateau in sensitivity. Quantum physics offers a step change in sensitivity of gravity and gravity gradient measurements. However, to be useful in real-world applications, this technology must be developed further to be robust enough for use outside of the laboratory. The aim of this research is to advance the component technologies involved in atom interferometry. This is to produce portable gravimeters with appropriate size, weight and power consumption while maintaining high sensitivity.
