Exploring the infrared SEDs of local AGNs

Lead Research Organisation: University of Sheffield
Department Name: Physics and Astronomy

Abstract

This project will involve using deep optical and radio imaging observations to investigate the triggering of intermediate radio power (10^22.5 < P_1.4GHz < 10^24 W Hz^-1) AGN with strong nuclear emission lines, and the nature of their host galaxies. The aims include: (a) using optical measures of the detailed morphologies and environments of the host galaxies to determine whether the intermediate radio power objects are triggered in major galaxy mergers; (b) to determine how the optical morphologies and bulge-to-disk ratios of the host galaxies vary with radio power; (c) to investigate how the radio morphologies depend on radio power.
