Emergent Solid Oxide Fuel Cells

Lead Research Organisation: University of St Andrews
Department Name: Chemistry

Abstract

The project brings together two concepts, the rolled solid oxide fuel cell and the emergent nanoparticle electrocatalyst. The tape casting and screen printing will be utilised to form green structures of the rolled SOFC concept. These will be fired and sintered at high temperature to form the ceramic cells. There is considerable work to achieve working cells including shrinkage matching, minimising reactions and maintaining dense electrolytes and porous electrolytes. The new electrodes will be activated in situ by applying an electric field and the evolution studied in terms of performance and microstructure.
