The Upgrade of the CMS Tracker
Lead Research Organisation:
University of Bristol
Department Name: Physics
Abstract
The CMS experiment at the LHC will undergo major upgrades in preparation for the high luminosity LHC programme, which is scheduled to begin in 2026. The entire tracking detector will be replaced, and the new tracker will be capable of contributing real-time information to the trigger system in order to determine whether collision data is of sufficient interest to be kept for further analysis.
The student will contribute to the design, construction and commissioning of the CMS Upgrade tracker and its components, through physics studies and technical tasks such as prototype and integration testing, and writing software and firmware.
